A 15-year-old boy was yesterday remanded into police custody when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court for allegedly pelting his mother with a brick and threatening to chop her up.
The teen of David Street, Kitty, pleaded not guilty to the charges of unlawful assault and threatening behaviour when Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read them to him.
He denied that on April 11, at Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust, he unlawfully assaulted his mother. He also denied that on the same day and place, he used threatening behaviour towards her.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that on the day in question the teen’s mother had rebuked him for abusing his grandmother, and he became infuriated and pelted her with a brick that struck her left foot. He said the teen then picked up a cutlass and chased after his mother threatening to chop her up.
The woman later made a report to the police station and the teen was arrested and subsequently charged.
The teen in his defence stated that his mother had thrown hot water on him during an argument.
The teen’s father, who was also present in court, stated that the teen’s mother had refused to allow him to attend the Government Technical Institute and so she was hampering his progress in life.
The magistrate then ordered that the teen be taken to the Probation Office and scheduled another court appearance for May 14.
