Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday sentenced 42-year-old Sunil Singh to two years imprisonment for breaking and entering the storeroom of a man and stealing a quantity of items.
Singh entered a guilty plea to the charge of break and enter and larceny when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
He admitted that between March 21 and April 15, he broke and entered the storeroom of Anuj Persaud and stole a gas bottle, an amplifier, an electronic mixer, a 15” speaker and a tool kit with a total value of $103,000.
Singh said he never broke into the storeroom; the door was open so he just walked in and took the items.
He said, “ah lil boy 18 or 19 send me to take de things.”
He said the boy then bought everything from him for $10,000 and he used the money to buy a pair of pants and a shirt for himself.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that on March 21, Persaud secured the storeroom and later made checks on April 15 when he discovered the articles missing. He said Persaud then made a report of the incident to the police station and Singh was subsequently arrested.
He said Singh admitted to the break-in and the 15” speaker was found in an abandoned bus in which he lives. (AB)
