A motorcyclist was killed and his pillion rider hospitalized on Sunday after an out of control pick-up crashed into them at Rose Hall, Canje, Berbice.
Dead is Mukeshwar Seelall, 23, of Gangaram, East Canje, Berbice while Latchman Singh also 23 of Canefield, East Canje has been admitted a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
According to a police press release yesterday, investigations have revealed that around 10.30 pm on Sunday, Seelall was riding his motorcycle along the roadway with pillion rider Singh the driver of motor pick-up PHH 1025, which was proceeding in the opposite direction, swerved across the road and struck them down.
The driver of the pick-up fled the scene while the injured men were taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where Seelall was pronounced dead on arrival and Singh admitted. The pick-up was lodged with the police, the release said. The driver of the pick-up was early yesterday located by the police at Fort Wellington Hospital where he was admitted a patient.
Seelall’s mother, Drupattie Seelall told this newspaper that her son, a transmission operator with NCN in New Amsterdam, had left home that night to go to work. Shortly after, she said, she received a call and the person told her that Mukeshwar was in the hospital and asked her to go there right away. However, as she was preparing to leave, a neighbour went over to her house and told her that her son was dead, Drupattie said.
The grieving woman said that Mukeshwar worked with NCN for the past three and a half years and had purchased the motorcycle in the first week that he worked there. Mukeshwar was the younger of two children and he also leaves to mourn his father.
