A mechanic who went to a wake ended up dead leaving relatives perplexed after they found his body splayed out on a parapet in his East Coast Demerara (ECD) village.
Relatives of Bodnarine, 43, popularly known as ‘Hanuman’ of 33 Haslington, ECD found his body on the parapet near a trench after they heard reports that he had drowned.
According to his sister Jagrani Gobin, she, Bodnarine and other family members went to a wake last night. Around 10 pm, she said, they heard persons at the wake saying that Bodnarine had drowned. Gobin said she had not missed Bodnarine and had no idea he had left the wake.
She said they left to investigate and came across her brother’s body splayed out on the ground. None of his possessions were missing, she said, and while it was obvious that he had been in the trench, no one knew how it had happened or who had fished her brother out of the trench.
The wake was being held at a neighbour’s house not too far from where they lived she added. Bodnarine was said to be an assistant irrigations mechanic at the Enmore Estate.
