The police are currently conducting investigations into the alleged theft of a gold pendant by a policeman attached to the Alberttown Police Station.
According to a police release, investigations revealed that the policeman stole the gold pendant from one Shane Morgan of Dowding Street, Kitty, on Friday, April 16, during a search of Morgan and three other men at Sandy Babb Street, Kitty.
An unlicensed firearm and a quantity of ammunition were found during the search.
Following his arrest, the police stated, Morgan and the others were taken to the Alberttown Police Station where his personal property, which included a gold chain and pendant, were taken by the rank to be lodged. However, Morgan observed that only the chain was lodged by the policeman and he raised an alarm.
The release said subsequent checks by a senior rank resulted in the gold pendant being found in the policeman’s personal motor vehicle which was parked in front of the station.
Morgan has since declined to give a statement in the matter, the release stated. However the policeman has been placed under close arrest and departmental action is being taken against him.
Morgan has since been charged with possession of firearm without licence and possession of ammunition without licence and following an appearance in court on April 19, he was remanded to prison.
