Chandra Narine Sharma, who was on Wednesday granted $2 million bail on a carnal knowledge charge, was yesterday admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the St Joseph Mercy Hospital, while some of his employees were up to last night being questioned by the police in relation to obstruction of justice.
Stabroek News was informed that the owner of CNS Channel 6 was rushed to the institution just after midday yesterday and up to press time was in the ICU.
Meanwhile, reliable sources last evening disclosed that at least two of Sharma’s employees and two other persons were hauled in by the police and kept in custody.
Reports are that the four are being grilled about allegations of offers for a financial settlement said to be in the millions to the virtual complainant (VC).
Stabroek News was told that the four were at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and may face charges of obstruction of justice.
There were reports that offers, including one for $10 million, were made to the VC and her sisters–all of whom have alleged that Sharma sexually abused them–by persons but all of the offers were rejected.
Attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes was reportedly with the four at CID but police decided to keep them overnight. And the mother of the alleged victims, Primotie Danraj, was still in custody up to last night and according to sources “only tonight [last night] she start to open up to the police.”
The law men were said to be detailing a statement made by the woman.
The woman, who had gone into hiding since last Thursday when the allegations first surfaced, turned herself over to the Ministry of Human Services on Tuesday and was duly handed over to the police and has been in custody since then.
She had initially maintained that she knew nothing of the alleged abuse but sources said she was telling a different story last night.
