Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo refused two men their pre-trial liberty when they appeared at the New Amsterdam Court yesterday, charged with murdering a Hampshire, Corentyne businessman and robbing his wife.
Reports are that the men, Ojayron Goury, 24 and Troy Holligan, 29 both of Stanleytown, NA shot Hemraj Samaroo during a robbery at his house on March 27. He died the following day at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The men were also charged with robbing Samaroo’s wife, Kumarie ‘Leila’ Samaroo, of cash and jewellery totalling almost $1M.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Satrohan Dayaram made an application for bail to be refused and noted that Kumarie had identified the men during an identification parade. Police sources had said that investigators are also looking for at least two other suspects.
Samaroo, a fruit vendor at the New Amsterdam market for 28 years, had received gunshot injuries in his left leg and bled profusely.
