Demerara Speedboat Sports Club (DSSC) thrashed Stabroek Market by a resounding seven-wicket margin on Wednesday evening at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda, in their feature 25-over softball match.
Stabroek Market were asked to take first knock and they only scored an inadequate 163 all out off 22.1 overs, while the DSSC, in reply, romped to 166-3 in the tenth over.
Opener Amit Kooblall led the assault for the boat boys with a scintillating 58, while his brother Navindra Kooblall was also in a ferocious mood finishing the game in style with a dashing, unbeaten 56.
No bowler was spared their wrath as the siblings batted with freedom, and capitalized on some innocuous bowling from the Market bowlers.
Amit, the right-handed batsman, slammed eight huge sixes and a four in his 17-ball stay at the crease, while Navindra smacked six sixes and four fours from just 15 deliveries.
Samdundar Singh was also among the runs despite being forced to play the second fiddle for both top-scorers with an unbeaten 26.
Earlier, Stabroek Market began their innings in a disastrous manner as they lost their first three wickets with just 20 runs on the board. However, skipper Ryan Boodhoo kept his composure and fashioned an attractive 76, which included seven sixes and three fours.
The right-handed Boodhoo got support from Duesh Sookoo, who weighed in with 48 runs and the experienced Zaif Bacchus with 25, as Man-of-the-Match Mahase Bhagoo snared 5 – 18 from 4 overs and Ravindra Kooblall captured 2-26 off four overs.
The winning team received a trophy, compliments of Golyn and Sons, at Stabroek Market and Robb Street.
Meanwhile, at the presentation, President of GCC, Lionel Jaikarran, congratulated the winners, and welcomed them to the venue to play under lights.
Both skippers expressed gratitude to GCC, and reckoned it was an entertaining match.
