Ravens Sport Club (RSC) beat Police Sports Club (PSC) by 20 runs in the final of the inaugural North Professional Cricket Committee (NPCC) Phillip Mining Enterprise’s T20 cricket championship held recently at the Sparta ground in Essequibo.

RSC won the toss and elected to take first strike, but only scored 106 all out off their allotted overs. This proved to be more than adequate since the PSC, in reply, were bowled out for 84 in the 16th over.

When RSC batted Latchman Rohit top scored with 28 runs, while Kassim Bacchus and Dennis Benjamin chipped in with 21 and 17 respectively. Medium pacer Fazeer Khan was the pick of the bowlers for the PSC, claiming 3-19 off 3.4 overs and he received support from Kwasie Abrams and Phillip Smith who grabbed two wickets each.

Bruce Johnson led the fight for PSC making 23 as off-spinner Paul Reid, who delivered 2.2 overs, picked up three wickets for 21 runs and got good support from Rohit, Timothy Rambarran and Fenton Jacobs who took two wickets each.

In the third-place playoff, Sparwin defeated Daniels-town Sports Club by a comfortable six-wicket margin.

At the presentation ceremony, captain of the championship team, Mahendranauth Bennett, received a trophy and $50,000, while captain of the PSC, Fazeer Khan, collected a trophy and $25, 000.

Sparwin took home a trophy and $5, 000 for their effort. Rohit was later named Man-of-the-Match and he received a trophy and $5, 000.

Abrams received a bat and a trophy for the 107 he scored against Young Guns to emerge as the only centurion in the competition, while Khan was voted the Man-of-the-Series after he scored 123 runs and picked up 12 wickets.

The award for the best batsman went to Abrams for his 278 runs scored in the competition, while right-arm spinner Darryram Ramlall received a trophy for taking the most wickets (17) in the tournament.

Khem Smith, the older brother of the sponsor, said his family was happy to host the competition for the teams and assured them that it will be an annual event.

President of the NPCC, Anand Azad, thanked the sponsor for his support. Philip Mining Enterprise injected over $250,000 into the competition, which spanned approximately two weeks, and included eight teams.
