Clarence Ellis was true patriot

The PNCR said on Friday that in Clarence Ellis’s death Guyana lost a brilliant son, a true patriot and an outstanding representative of the masses of the Guyanese people.

While sending condolences to Ellis’s family, relatives and friends, PNCR MP Volda Lawrence said that as an economist and researcher he placed his talents at the disposal of the country and described his work at Bank of Guyana as legendary.

Ellis served as the deputy governor of the bank and the chairman of the State Planning Board. Lawrence, who read a party statement, noted that his well documented position on shared governance for Guyana remained an important legacy still to be sought after and achieved.

She added that his loyalty to his country was never in question as he still championed the causes of Guyanese struggle every day even though he lived in the United States.

Ellis’s life and work embodied the aspirations of a village boy as he strove to bring economic and social improvement to the conditions of the poor and the powerless. It is with great sadness, Lawrence said, that the party received the news of his death despite knowing of his ill health over a protracted period.
