A 27-year-old on his way home from a wedding on Saturday night ended up in the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was hit by a vehicle as he was crossing the road at Mon Repos Market Square, East Coast Demerara.
Tagenarine Basdeo of 77 Mon Repo Pasture, ECD told Stabroek News from his bed in the Male Surgical Ward that all he remembers is leaving the wedding house to go home. The accident occurred some time around 10 pm his mother, Omadevi Basdeo said.
As a result of the accident, Basdeo sustained a broken arm and foot as well as neck and head injuries. According to his mother the driver of the car and the car are being held at the Beterverwagting Police Station. The driver reportedly took her son to the hospital, she added.
However, she said, some two hours after he was rushed to the hospital she learnt that her son had been involved in an accident and that he was dead. Omadevi said that she was relieved when she reached the hospital some two hours later and learnt that her son was alive and had been admitted to hospital.
