PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Guyana’s Shawn Beveney, and Jamaican Sean Fraser scored goals, when the Trinidad & Tobago Pro League kicked off its new season over the weekend.
In the feature match of a double-header on Saturday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Beveney netted in Caledonia AIA’s 4-2 victory over St. Ann’s Rangers.
The Guyanese midfielder drew Caledonia level in the 36th minute, after Rangers had taken the lead in the 30 minute.
Beveney completed a solo run down the left flank with a low left-footer that whistled past Rangers’ custodian Daurance Williams on his near post.
Rangers had started well though, forcing Jamaican goalkeeper Kevin Graham into two early saves to deny Josimar Belgrave and Odelle Armstrong, whose header had given them the lead.
Caledonia extended their lead in the 40th minute, when the lanky Daniel Cyrus met Sherron Joseph’s cross from the right with a half volley, which gave Williams no chance.
On the resumption, Caledonia started the better of the two teams, when the clever Sherron Joseph fooled the entire Rangers defence, sending them in one direction with a right-foot fake, before he rolled the ball over the line with a left-footed shot.
Substitute Hayden Vincent solidified the result for Caledonia in the 72nd minute, when he used his pace to past Densill Theobald, and before beating Williams.
Eight minutes from time, Belgrave got a second goal for Rangers, when his right-footed shot went in off the underside of the crossbar.
At the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Fraser found the back of the net in the 89th minute, following a brace from Errol Mc Farlane in the 33rd and 73rd minutes, as North East Stars marked their return to the league with a 3-0 blanking of FC South End.
