Geoffrey Ward, the man who allegedly stabbed his wife to death at her mother’s home over the weekend, was charged with murder yesterday.
Ward, of D’Urban Street, was remanded to prison by Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, after he was arraigned on the capital charge at the Providence Magistrates’ Court. He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
The charge stated that on April 24, at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, Ward murdered his wife, Donnette Ward. The case will be called again on May 13.
Donnette Ward, 36, was a Barbados-based Guyanese. Saturday’s incident was said to have brought an end to a turbulent seven-year marriage. Police had said that at around 10:30 am, the accused went to the home of his wife’s mother, at Herstelling, where she was staying. An argument soon ensued between the accused and his wife, which resulted in him stabbing her with a knife about her body.
