Dear Editor,
I refer to a statement made by Mr Carvil Duncan of the Guyana Labour Union on behalf of FITUG, in which he said among other things on national television that persons who participated in the 2009 Labour Day march were associated with political parties and not bona fide trade unions.
What is wrong with Mr Duncan? Labour Day is for workers, all workers – housewives, gardeners, porters, etc, unionized or not. All the peoples of this nation have contributed to its economic development and are therefore classified as workers.
Cde Hubert N Critchlow would be crying if he were alive today to hear such a statement coming from the lips of one who professes to represent the working class of Guyana.
Yours faithfully,
David Noel
