The Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) said its Georgetown annual mela will be held at the National Park on Sunday.
In a press release the IAC said it was forced to postpone the mela planned for last Sunday due to the persistent rains. The group said it regretted the inconvenience caused to the artists, concession stall holders and the public and it extends gratitude to the persons who assisted and endured the heavy downpour.
Meanwhile, the IAC said the Essequibo Mela planned for Sunday will now be held on May 9 at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground. The Berbice Mela will be hosted on Wednesday.
The group said the cultural programme remains the same except for the addition of two leading singers from Trinidad and Tobago. Local dance troupes including Sitare, Divas, Abhinaya Natya, Shelita, the Indian Cutlrual Centre, Nrityageet, dance Tameka, actor Michael Ignatius and leading singers including the 2010 Chutney Queen Fiona and members of the Shakti Strings Orchestra are expected to perform.
