A Mc Doom man was granted $70,000 bail when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday charged with break and enter and larceny, allegedly committed in his own neighbourhood.

Tony Hinds, 38, of Middle Street, Mc Doom pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

It is alleged that on April 12 at McDoom he broke and entered the dwelling house of Charles Pendison, carting off household articles valued at $106,500.

Hinds told the court that he did not commit the offence but while going home from work, he saw persons fetching articles out of Pendison’s house.  However, he did not investigate.

Police Prosecutor Inspector Stephen Telford said that on the day in question, Pendison was returning home when he saw Hinds fetching a television and a black bag. He raised an alarm and Hinds dropped the television and ran away. Upon reaching home, he realised the articles were missing from his home. Hinds was arrested and charged with the offence.

Telford asked for substantial bail to be granted.  Bail was granted and the matter transferred to Court Two for June 9.
