A man who pleaded guilty to committing an act of simple larceny at National Hardware Superstore was sentenced to two years imprisonment by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday.
Sean James, 38, of 142 Cooper Street, Albouystown pleaded guilty to taking one vehicle deck valued at $78,000 from the superstore on April 17.
The prosecutor said that on the day in question, James went into the store and removed the article from the shelf and placed it in his pants and left the store without paying for it.
During a replay on the store’s closed circuit television, security personnel observed James committing the act.
On April 27, James returned to the store and was promptly arrested by the store’s guards.
The prosecutor told the court that it was not the first offence of this nature committed by James.
James told the court that he was given $5,000 for the article.
He was then sentenced by the magistrate who urged him to take the time to reflect on what he had done.
