(Jamaica Gleaner) – Operations at Jamaica’s two international airports were brought to a standstill yesterday morning as disgruntled air Jamaica workers withdrew their services.
Reports reaching the Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre are that an Air Jamaica aircraft was stuck on the tarmac at New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport for several hours. This came hours after the employees announced their protest action.
While Air Jamaica officials remain tightlipped, reports indicate that passengers in Fort Lauderdale, and Philadelphia were also affected.
Vice president for Commercial Marketing at the Airports Authority of Jamaica, Mark Williams, said so far four flights have been cancelled at the Norman Manley International Airport.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Scotton, chief commercial officer at MBJ Airports says some passengers are now in a state of confusion regarding connecting flights to the United States.
