Journeyman Leon ‘The Lion’ Gilkes will clash with Theophilus King in the main event of the third Guyana Boxing Board of Control/Guyana Amateur Boxing Association ProAm card which begins at 8pm tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Gilkes has an unflattering record of four wins and 11 losses (nine of which came by the knockout route) from his 18 fights.
King is yet to register a professional win.
His was beaten in his only fight by Sean Corbin and will be looking for a win tonight in the heavyweight contest.
In the main supporting bout, the hard-hitting knockout artist Kwesi Jones will be looking for a dominant performance over James Walcott in their junior welterweight contest.
Walcott, after winning his first professional fight, lost his other two.
Jones only has one blemish from his brief professional career – a loss to Edmond De Clou.
In the ladies’ heavyweight encounter, Sharon ‘Stone’ Ward, who has four wins and four losses from her eight fights, will be going up against the audacious Pauline London, who has lost more fights than she has won.
Rounding out the pro card will be the battle between Laurex Benn and Michael De Mattos in a junior middleweight encounter.
Ricola Gym’s Moolchan Sankar will raise the curtain in the amateur section of the card against Herlando Allicock of Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) in a junior flyweight clash.
Clairmont Gibson of the Guyana Defence Force Gym will then challenge Republican Gym’s Nandkumar Singh, who recently produced some sterling performances at the GABA National Novices Championships earlier in the month.
The two will compete in the lightweight division.
Akeem Alexander, fighting out of the Caryll Boxing Gym, is set to trade blows with David Thomas of the Republican Gym while in the final amateur fight Romeo Norville of Harpy Eagles Gym will duke it out against Sherwin Clarke of the Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym of Berbice.
