A 13-year-old boy on Saturday night became the country’s latest road fatality victim when the bicycle he was being towed on was hit by vehicle at around 19:00 hrs at Long Creek on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
Police yesterday said they were investigating the accident that resulted in the death of Joshua Douglas, 13, of Long Creek.
In its release the force said investigations have revealed that the child was being towed on a bicycle by Ryan Rampersaud, 21, of Dora Park, Soesdyke/Linden Highway at the time.
It is alleged by the driver of motor car PJJ 6668 that as he was about to pass, the rider of the bicycle suddenly swerved into the path of the motor car which collided with them.
Both persons were taken to the McKenzie Hospital where Douglas died while receiving medical attention and Rampersaud was admitted as a patient.
The driver of the motor car is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
