Motorists are being urged to exercise extreme caution on the roads following the recent spate of fatal accidents in the country.
A press release from the police Traffic Department said that this plea comes especially in view of the approaching rainy season that will result in wet road surfaces and which will have serious consequences for speeding.
Last week, 25-year-old Kishana DaSilva was killed when the pickup she was travelling in hit a lantern post opposite the Sparendaam Police Station before crashing into a fence.
Police had said that their investigation revealed that the vehicle which was travelling at a fast rate of speed went into a pool of water that had accumulated on the roadway.
The driver, her fiancé Keith King was later charged with causing death by dangerous driving and released on $2 million bail.
There have been several other accidents since then.
