Mahaica Determinators and Bakewell Buxton Stars were the first two teams to record victories in the second round of the East Coast Mackeson Premiere League.
Ann’s Grove suffered a 1 – 0 loss to Mahaica and Buxton Stars got past BV/Triumph FC 2 – 1 in another encounter.
At the Beterverwagting ground Mahaica was able to needle Ann’s Grove, compliments of the first minute goal scored by Colin Peters.
In the other match Neville Gulliver scored in the first minute for Buxton Stars then Shawn Daniels doubled the lead in the 60th minute.
When it was all but over for BV, an own goal by Buxton’s Malcolm Wilson in the 80th minute gave the opposition some hope of finding the equalizer but that effort went in vain.
In match three of the second round Buxton Stars and Golden Stars played to a stalemate at the BV ground.
The action continues this weekend with Golden Stars meeting Victoria Kings at Buxton ground on Saturday from 4pm and BV and Buxton Stars clashing with Ann’s Grove and Mahaica from 2pm.
Buxton Stars head the table with 13 points, BV trail closely with 12 points while Mahaica and Victoria Kings are third and fourth respectively on 11 points and Golden Stars and Ann’s Grove are at the bottom of the table with nine points.
