Two men were remanded to prison yesterday over separate allegations that they had carnal knowledge of underage girls.
Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson remanded Winston Phillips to prison for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of carnal knowledge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. It is alleged that on June 4, 2008, he had carnal knowledge of the girl.
Phillips told the court that he was a friend of the girl’s mother – a claim that was denied by the woman. He further proclaimed his innocence.
The complainant in the matter related to her mother that she was abused by the accused since she was nine years old and she was threatened by him to continue the acts.
Phillips was remanded and the matter put down for June 6.
Meanwhile, Damian De Freitas was also remanded to prison by Magistrate Robertson, on the charge that he allegedly had sex with a 12-year-old girl. He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of carnal knowledge. The charge stated that on April 27, 2010 he had carnal knowledge of the girl. When asked whether he wanted to say anything, he declined.
He was remanded and the matter put down for May 27.
