Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday ordered that a father of two, who had allegedly thrown a quantity of cannabis in two plastic bottles over the Camp Street Prison fence, be remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Thirty-three-year-old Devon Felix pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

He denied that on May 8, at the Camp Street Prison, he had 100 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Felix begged the magistrate to grant him bail since he has two young children.  He said that he was never at the prison but at a fish shop nearby.

Prosecutor Joel Ricknauth told the court that Felix was seen throwing the bottles with the cannabis over the prison fence.

He then requested that the defendant be remanded to prison and an early date be set for the Preliminary Inquiry into the matter.

The magistrate  refused bail for Felix and ordered that he appear back in court on July 6.
