Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday placed a 49-year-old man on bail in the sum of $150,000 when he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magis-trate’s Court for allegedly forging an agreement of sale for land owned by his brother.

Lochand Doodnauth of Craig Street, Kitty, pleaded not guilty to the charge of forgery which stated that on February 28, 2002, with intent to defraud, he forged an agreement of sale for a property belonging to his brother Baldeo Doodnauth, located at Section ‘G’ Camp-bellville, valued $7.5M, in favour of himself, knowing it was false.

His lawyer Hukumchand applied for reasonable bail for him on the grounds that his client presented no risk of flight and he would  not tamper with any of the witnesses if released.
He stated that he was surprised at the criminal charge since his client’s brother had already filed civil matters in relation to the same allegation against him in the High Court.

The prosecution made no objection to the bail application but asked that it be granted in a substantial amount.

Doodnauth is expected to make another court appearance on June 25.
