With just days to go before their departure for the West Indies Fullbore championships in Barbados, Guyana’s rifle shooters have heightened preparation for the regional event slated for next weekend in Bridgetown.

This weekend the local riflemen will take part in the Crown Mining Postal Shoot at the Timehri rifle ranges after some remarkable performances in last weekend’s Canada Cup and Jamaica Rifle Association Postal shoots.

The current national champion Ransford Goodluck will be looking for another outstanding showing following his excellent feat of three possibles for a maximum score of 150 points with 20 V-bulls out of 150.30 Vs.

He was coached by national captain Mahendra Persaud who had also coached Ruchard Field to a maximum score in the West Indies championships in Guyana.

The other team coaches who were primarily concerned with reading the wind conditions and instruction the shooters when to fire were, ACP Paul Slowe,  Goodluck and  vice captain Dylan Fields.

Sunday’s shoot sponsored by Crown Mining Enterprise of North Road will comprise a team of  six shooters shooting seven rounds at 300, 500 and 600 yards.

Starting time is 09:00 hours.

The day’s programme will end with a Team practice shoot at 900 and 1000 yard ranges.

Meanwhile, member countries of the West Indies Fullbore Council contest the Postal Shoots where the scores are posted to the Council and the winners are declared at the regional championships.  The local shooters recorded 1141 with 98 Vs out of a possible 1200/240Vs in the West Indies Cup while they muster 1080 with 216 Vs out of a possible 1120/240 Vs in the Canada Cup.

The leading scorers in WI Cup were Goodluck with 150/20, Persaud with 146/11, Claude Duguid 145/15, Ryan Sampson 143/14.

In the Canada Cup – Goodluck recorded 135/20, Duguid 131/14, Persaud 131/11 and Sampson 128/12.

Guyana are presently the defending Champions for both the Short Range Formerly known as the BWIA Cup and long Range (Milex) Trophies.

In Barbados, Guyana will be seeking to make it an unprecedented 4 in a row, for the Short range Title having won it for the last  3 years – 2007 in Guyana, 2008 in Jamaica and 2009 in Trinidad .

The Local shooters will be attempting to win the Short Range Title in Barbados, something they have not achieved in a very long time. The Guyanese shooters leave next weekend for Barbados.
