Trinidad’s Aron Wilson has been selected on the International Table Tennis Federation’s 2010 World Hopes team.
Wilson is one of four boys chosen for the annual programme.
The others are Ka Ta Hung of Hong Kong, Filip Ilijevski of Canada and Christopher Wheeler of Scotland.
The girls chosen are Mi Jeong Ham of Korea, Neridee Nino of Venezuela, Insana Makhuari of Latvia, Marie Migot of France and Ruofei Rao of New Zealand.
Following confirmation from the athletes and their respective national associations the World Hopes Team will participate in the Korean Hopes Challenge and Training Camp from July 15 – August 1 and the European Mini Champs in France from August 25- September 1.
Meanwhile the ITTF has determined that Migot will attend the Korean Hopes event while MI Jong Ham will represent the ITTF World Hopes Team at the Euro Mini Champs event in France.
The nine players were selected out of a total of 169 applicants and according to the ITTF, a budget frame of US$50,000 will provide support for the coaches and the players to participate in a maximum of two recognized ITTF events.
Brian Afanador a previous World Hopes Team member won the Under-13 boys’ singles title at this year’s Pre-Cadet and Under-13 championships held in Puerto Rico.
