-Rodrigues nets hat-trick
TUNAPUNA, Trinidad, CMC – It will be the clash of the southern powers when Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago meet in their final Group F fixture of the Caribbean phase of the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup qualifying this afternoon.
Guyana demolished St Lucia 8-0 on Wednesday at the Marvin Lee AstroTurf Stadium to top the table.
Host team T&T inflicted a 5-0 drubbing on Barbados in the later match to ensure the two unbeaten teams would meet to decide group honours.
Guyana rushed to a 3-0 half-time lead before adding five more before the final whistle as they coasted home to victory.
They were led by hat-tricks from Alison Heydorn who scored in the 15th, 58th and 64 the minute and Ashley Rodrigues, who found the target in the 11th, 54th and 64th minute.
Trinidad and Tobago followed suit with a 2-0 half-time lead but could only get three more in the second half including an own goal by Barbadian midfielder Soraya Toppin-Herbert in the 72nd.
Arin King ended with a hat-trick netting in the 5th, 11th and 48th while Kenaya Coroner accounted for the other goal in the 90th.
Barbados and St Lucia will clash today in their final game in a match that will be precursor to the final.
