The Albouystown-Charlestown superstars, who are currently the undefeated champions of the Mackeson National Super Ward Basketball Championships, is slated to face their toughest competition yet when they go up against the celebrities of the championships tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
For the grand finale, some of the best performers of the Super Ward Championship have been handpicked by the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) in an attempt achieve what none of Albouystown-Charlestown’s previous opponents have been able to do by defeating the yet undefeated side.
It seems a challenging feat, taking into consideration that Albouystown-Charlestown convincingly rolled over some of their opponents on the road to seven consecutive wins to claim the championship trophy.
The selection was made based on the performances of the players and statistics throughout the championship and according to GABA secretary Bobby Cadogan speaking with Stabroek Sport, “This is the best combination we came up with to challenge Albouystown-Charlestown.”
“The Celebrities will be looking to stop the unbeaten tempo of Albouystown-Charlestown… and it will be an exciting game because there’re exciting players on both teams,” Cadagon added.
GABA president Trevor Rose also commented on the match-up and stated, “It will be interesting to see if Albouystown-Charlestown can stand against the star studded Celebrity team.”
The Celebrity line-up will be coached by Ryan Byass from Christianburg and includes Nkossi Gorick, Vivian Alder, Royston Siland, Ryan Gullen, Randy Caesar, Randy Richardson, Naylon Loncke, Stephon Gillis, Quincy Jones, Nevin Grenville and Ryan Stephney.
It is anticipated that the game will be keenly contested with equal or more crowd support and following its conclusion there will be the presentation ceremony and after party.
