SANTO DOMINGO, (Reuters) – At least three people were killed in shootings in the Dominican Republic on Sunday as voters cast their ballots in congressional and municipal elections, authorities said.
The head of an Organization of American States election observers’ mission said voting in the small Caribbean state had generally gone ahead normally, despite what he described as isolated incidents of violence.
More than six million voters were eligible to elect 32 senators, 178 deputies and 155 mayors as well as several thousand municipal government representatives.
