A Kwakwani resident was remanded to prison on a charge of indecently assaulting an eighteen-year-old female by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson when he appeared before her yesterday.
Roger Green pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on May 11 at Kwakwani Park, Upper Berbice River he accosted a female who was walking home. He allegedly ripped off her blouse and fondled her breasts.
However, when he tried to unbutton her pants, she hit him in the head with her umbrella and was able to make an escape. She then reported the matter and Green was subsequently arrested.
The accused told the magistrate that he was not present when the incident allegedly took place. He said that he had left the area at 4 pm on the day in question.
The prosecutor asked for bail to be refused based on the possibility that Green could tamper with the complainant in the matter.
He was then remanded and the matter transferred to Kwakwani for May 21.
