Two men yesterday appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magis-trate’s Court charged with sex offences and one was remanded to prison while the other was released on bail.
Arfan Gafoor, 20, a butcher of Lot 9 La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was not required to plead to the indictable charge of buggery and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin. It is alleged that on May 1 at Blankenburg, WCD, he buggered a 13-year-old male. The matter was reported and following police investigations, he was arrested and charged. He will return to court on July 8.
Meantime, 23-year-old Bisnauth Persaud of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo was not required to plead to the indictable charge of carnally knowing a girl under 15 years and was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 by the Magistrate. It is alleged that the accused on March 22 at Zeelugt, had carnal knowledge of a female under the age of 15 years. The matter was reported and following police investigations, he was arrested and charged.
Persaud was ordered to return to court on July 12 at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magis-trate’s court.
