A businessman appeared in court in Linden on Tuesday accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm on his reputed wife who was also charged with unlawfully wounding him, after a confrontation erupted over her late arrival at home.
Sookdai reportedly inflicted grievous bodily harm on his reputed wife Esther Spencer at East Amelia’s Ward Industrial Site on May 12. Spencer was also charged with unlawfully wounding the businessman.
According to the facts presented to the court by the Prosecutor the confrontation started after Spencer returned home late on the day in question. Sookdai became annoyed with her and the two had an exchange of words, Subsequently Sookdai pushed Spencer into a glass table causing her to sustain injuries and she retaliated by attacking her reputed husband with a piece of glass from the broken table. The court was told that Sookdai in trying to avoid being `cut lashed Spencer with a piece of wood, fracturing her arm.
However, both parties indicated to the court that they would like to settle the matter but Spencer noted that she was afraid of Sookdai.
On hearing this the presiding magistrate placed the two on $5,000 bail each and ordered a probation report before making a decision in the matter which was put down for June 25.
