Less then twenty-four hours after returning from the 2010 Cricket World Cup where she displayed her superb cricket skills, West Indies female player Shemaine Campbelle  showed her humanitarian qualities when she collaborated to honour 60 outstanding mothers at the Area “H” ground.

The 17-year-old who played in the World Cup games for the West Indies as a wicket keeper, leg spinner and batsman organised the event with her teammates of the Rose Hall Town Pepsi Under-19, the Bakewell Second Division and the Gizmos & Gadgets Under-23 Cricket teams as part of a post-Mother’s Day tribute.

She told the mothers that she was grateful to be a member of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTYSC) as it has allowed her to be disciplined, focussed and to be a role model to others.

Campbelle who was named National Junior Runner-up Sportswoman of 2009 stated that representing the West Indies was a dream come true and playing in the World Cup was an experience that would remain with her forever.

RH TYSC secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster congratulated Campbelle for being a remarkable ambassador for not only her club but also for Berbice and Guyana.

He challenged her to remain disciplined at all times and praised her and her teammates for organizing the programme to honour the mothers in a thank you gesture to God for guiding her through her endeavor.

The long-serving administrator also praised the mothers for being excellent parents and called on them to continue to teach their children about the importance of discipline, respect for elders, the value of education, the virtue of honesty and self-respect.

He also announced that in future, all cricketers from RHTYSC would be required to  organize  a community project once they gain selection to the West Indies team. This would be a way of expressing gratitude while  teaching them the importance of keeping their feet firmly on the ground.

Campbelle also honoured three senior citizens of Rose Hall Town, Olive Batson, Millicent Trim and Lucille Brusch, who have recently attained the milestone of 90 years old. She presented each of them with a Ricks & Sari hamper and wished them the best in health and happiness.

Meanwhile, Denise Leow-Babb, a mother of seven speaking on behalf of the mothers, expressed  gratitude to Campbelle, her teammates and the RHTYSC for giving them the opportunity to feel appreciated.

She praised the management of the club for guiding the young cricketers along the correct path and teaching them the importance of serving others and to be thankful to God for every achievement.

The mothers were all treated to a special luncheon, a cultural presentation and each received $8,000 worth of gifts.
