-but event will go on, come rain or shine, says Boyce
The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) has once again postponed the launching of its inaugural Under-23 Games that was expected to be run off today at 14:00 hrs in the boardroom of part-sponsors Digicel.
The event has been postponed due to the absence of Digicel’s Marketing Manager, Shonette Moore, who would be unable to attend the launching since she is pressed with other matters outside of Georgetown.
President of the AAG, Colin Boyce said yesterday that the association was not willing to carry on the event without Moore’s presence so the launching has been postponed to next Monday but the time and location will remain the same.
This is the fourth time that the launching is being postponed since its announcement last Friday. It had originally been set for Monday but was postponed.
Subsequently, Boyce said that although the launch was set, lack of communication from the Digicel end left him skeptical and a postponement was announced.
After a subsequent meeting between the AAG and Digicel on Tuesday the new date was set for the following day, Wednesday.
Hiccups once again prevailed and the launching was postponed until today. However when contacted yesterday Boyce stated that Moore’s unavailability will now see the launching postponed to May 24.
The inaugural Under-23 Games is set to take off on May 30 at the Police Sports Club ground.
Boyce yesterday resolved that the postponement cloud that overshadowed the launch will not stall the running off of the Games, which had been originally set to take place in early May.
The AAG boss declared yesterday that come rain or shine no postponement will be entertained for the Games.
He noted that the ground is in need of weeding and if rain persists they would have to revert to the use of hand held brush cutters instead of the National Parks Commission’s slashing machine, which they originally intended to use. Meanwhile, registration for the meet is expected to close today but Boyce said that some leeway will be granted based on how things are going.
