The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) says it is in the process of computerising the Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence System in order to produce computer-generated licences.
In a press release the GRA said staff at the Licence Revenue Office (LRO) are currently recording information from the manual system onto the computer database. This information would be shared with entities such as the Guyana Police Force (GPF). The GRA said this exercise is expected to bring the country on par with those that produce computer-generated licences. The new licences would be plastic and are expected to be similar to the National Identification Card.
Senior Officer at the LRO Sean Richmond said the office has also started operations to update licence records. He said computerising the Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence System is one of the projects on the front burner of the GRA’s strategic plan and it hopes to start issuing these licences by year end. Richmond said currently the GRA receives full support on the project from multi-stakeholder agencies including the Ministry of Home Affairs and the GPF.
According to the GRA the new licence is another step it is taking in keeping with its vision of a modern system which offers convenience and ensures integrity.
