The 22-year-old student of the New Amsterdam Technical Institute
(NATI) who slammed into a cow with his motorcycle last Sunday succumbed to his injuries around 6 am yesterday.
The student, Rondel Simmons of Bermine Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice was a patient at the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Reports are that after the accident which occurred in New Amsterdam, Simmons who was also a football player was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
He was treated and subsequently transferred to the GPH. This newspaper learnt that although Simmons had regained consciousness and was said to be improving he was unable to talk because of injuries to this jaw.
Relatives had said that he was responding well to his treatments, was breathing on his own and was supposed to start eating solid food.
They are awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine his cause of death. The young man, who was preparing to write an examination in June, leaves to mourn his mother, Jillian Simmons, a policewoman, his father; Mark Fraser and two siblings.
