Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee will be heading a local delegation to Washington at the end of this month to attend a security meeting between CARICOM states and representatives from the US State Department.
Rohee at a recent press conference said that the meeting was initiated as a result of decisions taken at the last CARICOM Heads of Government meeting with the US State Department and it will involve ministers of national security throughout the region.
Issues to be discussed at the meeting include the reduction of drug trafficking, advanced public safety and security and promotion of social justice.
According to the minister, under the first topic emphasis will be given to maritime domain awareness in the area of interdiction of illicit trafficking in narcotics while under the second issue emphasis will be placed on improving law enforcement cooperation capacity while emphasis will also be given to preventing crime by focusing on youth and other vulnerable populations.
“Once given the opportunity to speak on these issues, we will so do at the meeting,” the minister said regarding the team that will be representing Guyana.
