Dear Editor,
I have a suggestion for the Prime Minister and citizens concerned with the state of roads and other infrastructure that affect us in rainy seasons. Note the rainfall over the various seasons measured by the Hydromet Office for the regions/ areas in question before the structures are built. Measure the rainfall after the structures are built.
If the rainfall is about the same or less and the new structures get washed away, then their constructions are substandard. If the rainfall is substantially greater and the newly built structures get washed away, then and only then should we tolerate the PM’s argument that bad weather destroys structures all over the world.
This presupposes that the touted measuring facilities of the Hydromet are up to standard and properly operational. If they are notm then I repeat my mantra that our country cannot afford not to measure its nature and phenomena.
Let this in no way detract from the necessity of the public works authorities heeding what the people say about things that they live with.
Yours faithfully,
Alfred Bhulai
