“Angel, good morning, you looking beautiful,” were the words that landed a man in court on Friday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson charged with provoking a breach of the peace.
The man, Ray Daniels said that he uttered the words because “I tried to reason with her for a relationship with her.”
Daniels, 27 of 32 Public Road, Kitty was accused of following Indira Harrycharran continuously on May 20 so as to occasion a breach of the peace. He pleaded guilty and was fined $10,000.
Daniels became enamoured with the young woman by seeing her and walked behind her asking her a number of questions about herself.
Harrycharran said that on Tuesday, he followed her from the Brickdam Station to her place of employment. She also stated that on Wednesday he went to her workplace and asked the receptionist for her. On Thursday he followed her to work again.
She added that on Friday morning he was waiting for her at the bus park, and uttered the phrase to her. However she was accompanied by her mother who reported the matter to the police. It was related to the court by Daniels’s father that he suffers from a mental problem for which he takes medication.
He told the young woman that he was sorry for following her and vowed not to do it again.
He was then fined $10,000 by the magistrate who told him that he should not follow persons around, and she also urged him to take his medication regularly.
