The Management Committee of the Cheshire Home recently received from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives two washing machines and a newly-installed water filtration system, as a contribution towards enhancing general hygiene and living conditions for the children’s benefit.
According to a press Canadian High Commission Counsellor, Head Development Cooperation and Charge d’Affaires, Raymond Drouin said the items “are intended to contribute to enhancing the general hygiene and living conditions of the home for the benefit of the children who reside there. With the time and resources saved by the use of the washing machines for laundry duties, the staff at the home should be able to focus more on the important aspects of child care and individual development needs of the children.” The pure water supply will also maintain and improve their health, he noted.
The high commission said Canada Fund provided over $1.5 million for the procurement and installation of the items, which serve to demonstrate Canada’s commitment to supporting persons with disabilities and children with special needs.
This is the second time that the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives has provided support to the Chessire Home, following the donation of two washers and dryers at a cost of $481,000 in 2001.
