The Faculty of Technology reaped a much needed win yesterday when they matched skills with the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall as the University of Guyana Inter-Faculty Basketball Competition continued.
Pulling back strongly after an agonizing two point loss against the Faculty of Natural Sciences on Monday, Technology garnered a well deserved 72-52 point win against Agriculture to take them to the semi-finals of the competition.
In what was a must-win game for the Technology line-up, the formidable squad delivered a well rounded performance and thoroughly outplayed Agriculture to secure their first official victory of the competition.
Technology’s shooting guard and junior national player Richard Mohandatt stepped up his game from their last encounter when he found himself mostly double teamed. This time around Mohandatt capitalized on Agriculture’s laps in defence and took advantage of some good looks by dropping a number of midrange jumpers and amassed 22 points in the process.
Mohandatt’s solid 22 points were matched by his energized teammate Trevor Abrams, who also turned up big on the scorecard when he added 22. Also in double figures for Technology was their center and Raven’s first division power forward, Rudy James who totaled 12 and Earl Oneil’s 11 assisted in extending their lead after he made some effective baskets coming off the bench.
The scoring by Agriculture was led by the ever productive Ryan Dey who brought another game winning performance to the court when he equaled his opponent’s game high total by posting 22 points. He was assisted by Deon Moore who aided his team’s counterattack with 12 points.
Technology will now meet the Faculty of Social Sciences in the semi-finals tomorrow at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Social Sciences, who placed second in the competition last year, trounced the Faculty of Health Sciences on Monday 67-50 to reach the semi-finals. This however did not hinder Health Sciences from progressing to the semi-finals and they will clash with the Faculty of Natural Sciences in the other semi-finals encounter.
Natural Sciences will be led by Pacesetters first division starting guard, Hugh Arthur who scored a game high 30 points in his team’s last match-up against the Faculty of Technology on Monday. Jump-ball time for the first semi-final game is 12pm.
