The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) says the St Joseph Mercy Hospital and the Eureka medical laboratories were recently recertified under its Laboratory Certification programme as they have maintained conformity with the criteria in the relevant standard.
In a press release the GNBS said the renewal certificates were presented on May 2l.
The two laboratories have continued to meet the requirements of the “Guyana Standard – General Requirements for the Operation of a Laboratory GYS 170:2003.”
The standard covers compliance with management, safety and technical requirements and documented procedures which would ensure the efficient monitoring, managing and training of personnel, calibration of equipment, measurement traceability, approved test methods and maintenance of accurate records.
The GNBS said to date there are seven medical laboratories currently certified under its programme which include St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Laboratory, Eureka Medical Laboratory, Dr Balwant Singh Hospital Laboratory, Sigma Labs, Central Medical Laboratory, Georgetown Public Hospital Laboratory and Woodlands Hospital Laboratory.
The GNBS is currently working with other labs to help them establish a laboratory management system, the release concluded.
