UN Good Officer visits: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett (second from right) yesterday received a courtesy call from Professor Norman Girvan, the Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon in the Guyana-Venezuela border controversy.
This is Girvan’s first visit to Guyana since his appointment. The post had been vacant following the death of Barbadian, Oliver Jackman in 2007. Girvan, a Jamaican, is a widely respected economist and academic.
