Uitvlugt Estate Manager Aaron Dukhia requested early retirement from GuySuCo and was not sent off for performance related issues.
In a letter to this newspaper, Dukhia said that contrary to an article published in this newspaper on Wednesday, he submitted his request for early retirement to the CEO on May 20. “I chose to leave the corporation after 41 years of dedicated service and as records would indicate, it was 41 years of good performance void of any professional blemishes,” he said.
Dukhia, the son of a cane harvester started his career in the sugar industry at the Blairmont factory in September 1969. In a memo that indicated that Dukhia was proceeding on pre-retirement leave, GuySuCo noted that “He gradually moved up the ranks during his years of committed service and after serving in key positions at both Blairmont and Albion, he was appointed General Manager at Blairmont in December 1999.”
During his time at both estates, record levels of production were attained; he was then transferred to the West Demerara Estates. In 2009, the Uitvlugt estate produced 19,000 tonnes of sugar and it is expected that production would increase this year. GuySuCo said it was fortunate to have benefited from Dukhia’s years of service and it extended best wishes to him in his future endeavours.
