Dear Editor,
I would like to highlight a serious security situation in the village of Cummings Lodge from the Railway Embankment right down to the eastern side of the University of Guyana. Bandits are spraying homes and stealing with impunity whilst occupants are asleep. To date nobody has been caught by the police and the incidents are on the increase.
It is common knowledge that the police are reactive and the only thing they do is to take a statement after the incident, except in special cases where they get specific instructions.
The ordinary people of this country do not benefit from the police and the situation will only improve when citizens stop idolizing government officials as Champions and demand that they execute their mandates which are to serve the people of Guyana. Only when someone is killed in the area do you see the police parading for about three days, then it is back to normal.
Can the Minister of Home Affairs say if there are enough personnel in the Police Force to facilitate regular patrols in the communities?
Yours faithfully,
R Khan
