National cricketer and West Indies ODI player Royston Crandon led Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets to a crushing nine-wicket victory over arch rivals Young Warriors in the final of the Port Mourant Cricket Club sponsored 20/20 tournament on Wednesday.
Playing before a large crowd Crandon took two wickets and scored a pugnacious 40 not out.
Young Warriors, batting first, were dismissed for 58 in 10 overs with only Farouk Hussain (22) and Richard Ramdeen (11) reaching double figures.
Medium pacer Assad Fudadin took 3-12, Renwick Batson 2 for 17, Crandon 2 for 5 and Troy Mathieson 2 for 6.
In reply, RHTG&G rattled up 63-1 off just 5.3 overs with Crandon hitting three sixes and three fours in his unbeaten 40. Fudadin was 18 not out at the end. Paul Wintz dismissed national player Delbert Hicks for five to end with 1-11 off two overs.
Earlier RHTG&G brushed aside powerhouse Albion by eight wickets while Young Warriors defeated Port Mourant by 18 runs to reach the final.
At the presentation ceremony, president of the Port Mourant Cricket Club, Godfrey Persaud, hailed the support of the large crowd and stated that all efforts would be made to return the historic club to its glory days.
He expressed gratitude to the three visiting teams, the Berbice Cricket Board, the RHTY&SC, and GuySuco, as well as C. Gobin, Pooran Narine, Peter Lewis and Amanda Costume & Jewellery for their support and sponsorship of the tournament.
Among the prizes presented were Best Wicket Keeper – Delbert Hicks, Best Batsman and MVP – Royston Crandon, Best Bowler – Assad Fudadin, and the teams received trophies. Crandon received a bicycle for being the most valuable player while the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club donated its winning purse of $10,000 to the Port Mourant Cricket Club for the use of its Under-15 team.
