The lifeless body of a 28-year-old, Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD) carpenter was yesterday morning discovered at a house in another ECD area after the man spent the night drinking with friends.
Police in a press release issued yesterday stated that an investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the death of Ravindra Singh. The police stated that Singh’s body was discovered around 6 am yesterday in a friend’s home at Mon Repos where he spent the night.
Singh’s grieving mother, Bibi Amina, told this newspaper yesterday that she received a call early yesterday morning; the caller informing her that her son’s motionless body was lying on the floor at a house at Lot 26, Block CC, Mon Repos. She said she arrived at the scene around 8 am yesterday and according to her, while the body bore no marks of violence. However, blood had oozed from her son’s mouth. She said her son was not known to have any grievances with anyone.
It was not clear what time during Sunday night Singh passed away, but according to the man’s mother, he was last seen around 6 pm on Sunday afternoon by another relative at his home. Neighbours living close to the house where Singh’s body was discovered told this newspaper that, “an old man” recently moved into the one-bedroom house and a number of persons usually visited the house to consume alcohol. They said that Singh and a few other persons were at the house on Sunday night but it started to rain and no one saw what transpired at the house thereafter.
Police investigators visited the scene around 10 am yesterday to carry out investigations into the circumstances surrounding Singh’s death. A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out on the man’s body tomorrow, his relatives stated.
