The three men accused of robbing First Choice Jewellery Store and Pawnshop on May 21 were remanded to prison yet again yesterday as the charge for robbery under arms was re-read to them.
The trio last week made their first court appearance where the charge was read to them. On that occasion they were remanded. However, because of a missing statement in the file, the charges had to be read to them again.
Avinash Ramcharran, 19, of 7 Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara; Jermaine Canterbury, 17, of Hogg Street, Albouystown and Leonard Allicock, 17, of 21 Independence Boulevard, Albouystown were not required to plead to the charge of robbery under arms when they appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive Hamilton.
It is alleged that on May 21, the trio robbed Rajendra Singh at gunpoint of gold jewellery valued $2.4 million, a cell phone valued $10,000 and $100,000 cash.
They were represented by attorney Mohammed Zafar who in his bail application told the court that no allegations were made against Allicock by Singh.
Police Prosecutor Joel Ricknauth objected to the granting of bail. He told the court that an allegation had been made against Allicock. Additionally, he said that all three accused gave statements to the police on the matter.
Bail was then refused and the matter put down for June 21.
