ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – West Indies selectors yesterday named an unchanged squad for the fifth One-day International against South Africa, opting to retain left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn despite his run-in with captain Chris Gayle.
Benn was sent off for insubordination during West Indies’ seven-wicket loss to South Africa in the fourth ODI on Sunday, prompting speculations he would be dropped for the final game scheduled for the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on Thursday.
Yesterday, however, Benn, who was fined 100 per cent of his match fee for the incident, was named in the 14-man squad.
West Indies will now turn their attention to avoiding a whitewash in the five-match series, where they already trail 0-4.
They lost the opening doubleheader in Antigua and also went down in both matches in Dominica last weekend.
SQUAD: Chris Gayle (captain), Dwayne Bravo, Dale Richards, Travis Dowlin, Shiv Chanderpaul, Darren Bravo, Narsingh Deonarine, Darren Sammy, Kieron Pollard, David Bernard, Denesh Ramdin, Sulieman Benn, Jerome Taylor, Ravi Rampaul.
